St. Thomas is traditionally believed to have preached Christianity in the court of Gondophernes (also spelled Gondophares), an Indo-Parthian king who ruled parts of northwest India in the 1st century AD. This account comes from the apocryphal 'Acts of Thomas' and early Christian traditions. Kanishka was a Kushan emperor from a later period (2nd century AD), while Maues and Demetrius were earlier Indo-Scythian rulers.
