Major Wars and the Mughal Empire

Damascus is widely considered the oldest continuously inhabited major city in the world, with archaeological evidence showing habitation dating back to 8,000-10,000 BCE. While other cities like Jericho and Byblos are also very old, Damascus has the strongest evidence of continuous occupation without significant abandonment periods. The concept of zero as both a number and a placeholder was invented in ancient India. Indian mathematician Brahmagupta (7th century CE) was the first to formalize rules for operations involving zero, including addition, subtraction, and multiplication. The concept later spread to the Islamic world and then to Europe through the work of scholars like Al-Khwarizmi.
