In Hindu mythology, Lakshmana is believed to be the incarnation of Shesha Naga (also known as Adisesha), the thousand-headed divine serpent on whom Lord Vishnu rests. Since Lakshmana devotedly served Rama (Vishnu's avatar), this connection is symbolically appropriate.

According to Hindu tradition and the Ramayana itself, the events of the epic take place during Treta Yuga, the second of the four Yugas (cosmic ages). The sequence is: Satya Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dvapara Yuga, and Kali Yuga.

When Sage Vishwamitra arrived at King Dasaratha's court to seek help against demons (specifically Maricha and Subahu), Rama was 16 years old. This is the traditional age mentioned in the Ramayana when Rama left with Vishwamitra for his training and first demonstrations of his divine powers.

During their 14-year exile, Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana lived in the Panchavati forest, which was located on the banks of the Godavari River. This is where key events like Surpanakha's encounter and the subsequent abduction of Sita took place.

Hanuman learned about Sita's abduction and her location in Lanka from Sampati, the vulture. Sampati was Jatayu's elder brother who had lost his wings and could reveal crucial information about Ravana's direction and Lanka's location.

After abducting Sita, Ravana kept her imprisoned in the Ashoka Vatika (Ashoka grove) in Lanka. This was a beautiful garden filled with Ashoka trees, where demonesses guarded her and she maintained her chastity through devotion to Rama.

When Lakshmana was fatally wounded by Indrajit's (Ravana's son) Shakti weapon during the war, Hanuman flew to the Dronagiri mountain in the Himalayas to fetch the Sanjivani Booti (life-restoring herb). This life-saving medicine revived Lakshmana.

Ramacharitamanas, the Awadhi language rendition of the Ramayana, was composed by Tulsidas in the 16th century (around 1574 CE). It's one of the most popular versions of the Ramayana in North India and emphasizes devotional worship (bhakti) of Rama.

Phra Lak Phra Lam is the Lao language adaptation of the Ramayana. In this Buddhist version, Rama is depicted as a previous incarnation (Bodhisattva) of the Buddha rather than Vishnu, reflecting the Theravada Buddhist influence in Laos.
