Cleopatra VII was the last active pharaoh of Ancient Egypt. She ruled from 51-30 BCE and was the last ruler of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt. After her defeat in the Battle of Actium and the subsequent Roman conquest, Egypt became a province of the Roman Empire. Her death in 30 BCE marked the end of the Hellenistic period and the beginning of Roman Egypt.

Josef Stalin was the leader of the Soviet Union during World War Two (1941-1945). He served as General Secretary of the Communist Party from 1922 until his death in 1953, leading the USSR through most of WWII including the decisive battles of Stalingrad and Kursk. Stalin formed a crucial alliance with the United States and United Kingdom as part of the Allied powers against Nazi Germany.

Christopher Columbus is traditionally credited with discovering the Americas in 1492, which opened the region to European exploration. While Vikings reached North America earlier around 1000 AD, Columbus's voyage is recognized as the first sustained European contact that led to colonization.

Edmund Hillary, a New Zealand mountaineer, became the first confirmed person to reach the summit of Mount Everest on May 29, 1953, alongside Sherpa Tenzing Norgay. This was a landmark achievement in mountaineering history.
