Indian History and Independence Movement

The Titanic's maiden voyage began on April 10, 1912, departing from Southampton, England, with New York City as its destination. The ship made stops at Cherbourg, France and Queenstown (now Cobh), Ireland before heading across the Atlantic Ocean, where it sank on April 15, 1912.

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is located in Bangalore (Bengaluru), Karnataka. It is one of India's premier research institutions in science and engineering. The other cities are important Karnataka cities but do not host IISc.

Dadabhai Naoroji was the first Indian to be elected to the British House of Commons in 1892. He was a prominent nationalist leader and economics scholar who founded the Indian National Congress's drainage theory of colonial exploitation.

Womesh Chunder Bonnerjee (Wyomeshchandra Bonerjee) was the first president of the Indian National Congress in 1885. Hume was the founder (British organizer), while Gandhi and Nehru became prominent leaders later.

Jawaharlal Nehru and Subhash Chandra Bose were called the "Young Turks" - a term for younger, more radical leaders pushing for complete independence (Purna Swaraj) against the moderate Gandhian approach.

Vinayak Damodar Savarkar (Veer Savarkar) founded the Abhinav Bharat society in 1904 as a revolutionary organization for Indian independence. His brother Baba Savarkar was also involved, but VD was the founder.

Mahamana (meaning 'great soul') was an honorific title given to Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya for his contributions to education and Indian society. He founded the Banaras Hindu University and was a key figure in the Indian independence movement. Tilak was known as 'Lokmanya', Gokhale was a prominent moderate leader, and Agarkar was a social reformer but none carried the Mahamana title.

Sir Syed Ahmed Khan founded the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College in 1875, which later became Aligarh Muslim University in 1920. He was a visionary educator who believed in scientific education and modern outlook for Indian Muslims. Zakir Hussain was a later President of India and AMU alumnus, Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan was the 'Frontier Gandhi', and Muhammad Iqbal was the poet-philosopher who conceived the idea of Pakistan.

Nehru wrote 'Discovery of India' during his imprisonment at Ahmednagar Fort Jail (1942-1945). The book emerged as a series of letters to his daughter Indira, exploring India's rich history and cultural heritage. Yerwada Jail was where Gandhi was often imprisoned, while London and Cambridge were places Nehru studied but did not write this book.

Ram Prasad Bismil was indeed known as 'Bismil Azimabadi' - he was a revolutionary poet who wrote famous poems like 'Sarfaroshi ki tamanna'. Chandra Shekhar Azad was a fellow revolutionary but not known by this name. Muhammad Iqbal was the poet who wrote 'Saare jahan se achha' and Bahadur Shah Zafar was the last Mughal emperor.

The first bullet of the 1857 Mutiny was fired at Meerut on May 10, 1857, when Indian sepoys revolted against their British officers. The mutiny then spread to other cities like Kanpur, Delhi, and Lucknow. Naini, Varanasi were not the starting points of this rebellion.

Arunachal Pradesh was previously known as NEFA (North East Frontier Agency) until it was renamed and granted statehood in 1987. Assam, Sikkim, and Manipur were never called NEFA - these are separate northeastern states with their own distinct identities.

Pondicherry (Puducherry) was a French colony, not Portuguese. The Portuguese ruled Goa, Diu, Daman, and Vasai (Bassein) until 1961 (Goa) and 1962 (Diu and Daman). Pondicherry was governed by France until 1954.

Bhagat Singh and his fellow freedom fighters undertook a historic and prolonged hunger strike in Lahore Jail in 1929 to protest the inhumane treatment and living conditions of Indian political prisoners compared to European inmates.

The Durand Line is the international border between Pakistan and Afghanistan, established in 1893. The Radcliffe Line separated India and Pakistan, while the McMahon Line is the boundary between India and China. 'Indo-Afghan Border' is not a formally named boundary.

The All India Muslim League was founded in 1906 at Dhaka with Aga Khan III as its first president. Muhammad Ali Jinnah joined the league later and became its most prominent leader. Iskandar Mirza and Liaquat Ali Khan were also associated but not founders.

Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit, sister of Jawaharlal Nehru, served as the President of the UN General Assembly (1953-54) - not General Secretary. She was the first woman and first Asian to hold this position. Motilal Nehru, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Krishna Hathisingh were not UN officials.

The Swaraj Party was founded in 1923 by Chittaranjan Das (Deshbandhu) and Motilal Nehru after the suspension of the Non-Cooperation Movement. They advocated entering legislative councils to disrupt them from within. Gandhi, Sarat Chandra, and Janakinath Bose were not co-founders.

In Islamic tradition, Prophet Sulaiman (Solomon) was granted control over wind and could command it by Allah's permission. This is mentioned in the Quran (34:12, 21:81). Other prophets like Yaqub, Yusuf, or Ibrahim are not associated with wind control in Islamic texts.
