Udaipur is known as the 'White City' because of its many white marble palaces, most notably the City Palace. The Rajput rulers built numerous palaces using white marble, giving the city its distinctive appearance. Jodhpur is the 'Blue City', Jaisalmer is the 'Golden City', and Amritsar has different nicknames.
