Famous Firsts in History

Wilhelm Röntgen (Germany) was awarded the first Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901 for his discovery of X-rays. Ronald Ross (Medicine, 1902), Lord Rayleigh (Physics, 1904), and Rudyard Kipling (Literature, 1907) all won Nobel Prizes but not the first ones.

Dasakumaracharita by Dandin (6th-7th century CE) is considered one of the earliest extant novels in Sanskrit literature. It's a prose romance about the adventures of ten princes. While classification of 'first novel' is debated, this is the answer marked correct. Tale of Genji (11th century Japan) is often called the world's first novel but came later. Kadambari (7th century Sanskrit) and Hayy ibn Yaghhan (12th century Arabic) are also early works.

The first Academy Awards ceremony in 1929 had multiple winners. Wings won Outstanding Picture (now Best Picture), and Seventh Heaven won Best Director (Dramatic Pictures) for Frank Borzage. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad served as India's first Education Minister after independence in 1947. A key independence movement leader, he shaped India's educational policy and promoted scientific learning.
