Kurukshetra War - Mahabharata

Drishtadyumna, the brother of Draupadi, was appointed as the supreme commander of the Pandava army. Krishna served as Arjuna's charioteer and strategist but was not the formal commander. Yudhishtara was the eldest Pandava but led his own division. Shikhandi was instrumental in Bhishma's defeat but not the overall commander.

Vidarbha Kingdom, under King Rukmi (brother of Rukmini), remained neutral in the Kurukshetra war. Neither Rukmi nor his forces joined either side. Dwaraka supported the Pandavas (Krishna and Balarama were involved). Magadha's Jarasandha had already been killed by Bhima. Madhura was associated with Krishna but not directly in the war.

Bhishma Pitamah, as the supreme commander of the Kaurava army, framed and codified the rules of ethical conduct for the Kurukshetra war. These rules governed when and how warfare could be conducted (e.g., no fighting after sunset, no attacking unarmed opponents). Drishtadyumna led the Pandava army but didn't frame the rules.

On the first day of the Kurukshetra war, the Pandavas organized their army in the Vajravyuha (diamond/thunderbolt formation). This was a strong defensive formation. Chakravyuha and Padmavyuha are the same formation (lotus/web), which Arjuna later had to counter when Abhimanyu was trapped. Makaravyuha (crocodile formation) was used on other days.

Kurukshetra is located in modern-day Haryana, northwest of Delhi. It's the site of the epic Mahabharata war between the Pandavas and Kauravas.

Jayadratha received a boon from Lord Shiva that allowed him to defeat the Pandavas (except Arjuna) for one day. He used this to prevent Arjuna and Krishna from entering the already-formed Chakravyuha, leading to Abhimanyu's tragic death.
