Gandhi went to England (London) to study law at University College London in 1888. He later practiced in South Africa but did not go there for his legal education. Russia and the United States were not part of his legal studies.

Gandhi established the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, Gujarat in 1917. This became the key center for his nonviolent resistance movement and the Indian independence struggle.
