Arulmozhi Varman was the birth name of the great Chola emperor Rajaraja I (Rajaraja Cholan). He ruled from 985 to 1014 CE and expanded the Chola empire to its greatest extent. He is renowned for building the Brihadisvara Temple at Thanjavur and establishing Chola dominance over South India and Sri Lanka.

Narasimha Varman I, also known as Mamallan, was the son of Mahendra Varman I. He ruled the Pallava kingdom from 630 to 668 CE and was a great warrior and patron of arts. He is credited with building the magnificent rock-cut temples and sculptures at Mahabalipuram (Mamallapuram), which are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Narasimha Varman I (Mamallan) built the famous rock-cut sculptures and monuments at Mahabalipuram (Mamallapuram) in the 7th century CE. These include the Shore Temple, Pancha Rathas, Arjuna's Penance (a massive bas-relief sculpture), and numerous cave temples. Mahabalipuram was named after him (Mamallanpuram) and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Narasimha Varman I, a Pallava king, famously captured and destroyed Vatapi (modern Badami), the capital of the Chalukya kingdom, in 642 CE. This earned him the title 'Vatapikonda' (conqueror of Vatapi). The Chola and Pandiya dynasties were contemporary Tamil kingdoms, while the Chera dynasty was another major Tamil dynasty - none were demolished by Narasimha Varman.

Paranjotiyar (also spelled Paranjodi) was the chief commander (Thalapathi) of Narasimha Varman I's army and led the military campaign that captured Vatapi. Pulikesi (Pulakeshin) was the Chalukya king defeated by Narasimha Varman. Mahendra Varman was Narasimha Varman's father. Sivagami is a fictional character from later Tamil literature.

The Ajanta and Ellora caves are located in modern Maharashtra and were patronized by various dynasties including the Chalukyas (Pulikesi's kingdom). These are UNESCO World Heritage sites known for ancient Buddhist, Hindu, and Jain art. Tanjore paintings originated much later under the Cholas. Mahabalipuram and Poompuhar were Pallava ports, not Chalukya territories.

Mahabalipuram was originally called Mamallapuram, meaning 'city of the great wrestler' (Mamallan was Narasimha Varman's title). The town was built by Narasimha Varman I and features famous rock-cut temples and sculptures. Chennai Pattinam, Poompuhar, and Pondicherry are different locations - Poompuhar was an ancient Chola port, while Pondicherry was a French colony.

Narasimha Varman I was called 'Mamallan' meaning 'great wrestler' in Tamil, reflecting his prowess in wrestling and military campaigns. He was not called Narasimha Pallava (that's just his dynasty). Gangai Konda Cholan was Rajendra Chola I's title from a later period. Arulmozhi was Raja Raja Chola I's birth name.

According to historical tradition, when Pulakeshin II (Pulikesi) attacked Kanchi (the Pallava capital), Mahendra Varman closed the fort gates (Kottai Kathavu) as a defensive strategy rather than engaging in open battle. This siege tactic is documented in Pallava history. The other options (war, white flag, running away) are not supported by historical accounts.
