Jawaharlal Nehru served as Prime Minister from August 15, 1947 to May 27, 1964 - approximately 16 years and 286 days, making it the longest tenure in India's history. Gulzari Lal Nanda was Acting PM twice but briefly. Indira Gandhi served two terms totaling about 15 years. Atal Bihari Vajpayee served two terms totaling about 6 years.

Indira Gandhi served as Information and Broadcasting Minister in her father Jawaharlal Nehru's cabinet from 1964-1966, making her the first (and only) woman to hold that portfolio before becoming PM. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was External Affairs Minister briefly in 1977, not Information and Broadcasting. Manmohan Singh was never a cabinet minister before becoming PM.

The Mandal Commission, which recommended 27% reservation for OBCs in government jobs and education, was implemented in August 1990 under Prime Minister V.P. Singh's government, despite strong opposition. This was a defining decision of his brief tenure. Chandrashekhar, I.K. Gujral, and Vajpayee were not in office when the implementation occurred.

The 1991 economic liberalization was introduced under Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, with Finance Minister Manmohan Singh as the principal architect. Chandrashekhar was PM briefly in 1990-91 before the reforms. I.K. Gujral and H.D. Deve Gowda became PM much later in the late 1990s.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee won Lok Sabha elections from 5 different constituencies: Lucknow, Gandhinagar, Balrampur, New Delhi, and Khandwa. This record makes him unique among Indian politicians. Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Lal Bahadur Shastri each won from fewer constituencies during their careers.

Sarojini Naidu, known as the 'Nightingale of India,' presided over the 1925 annual session of the Indian National Congress at Kanpur. She was a prominent freedom fighter, poet, and the first woman to become President of the INC. She later actively participated in the Civil Disobedience Movement.

Rani Laxmibai (also spelled Lakshmibai) was the queen of Jhansi and a leading figure in the Indian Rebellion of 1857. She is famously known as the 'Rani of Jhansi' for her brave resistance against British rule. She died fighting in battle at the age of 29.

Bhikaji Cama, an Indian independence activist, operated from Paris and made her house a secret shelter for revolutionaries from around the world. She is known for unfurling the Indian flag at the International Socialist Congress in Germany in 1907. She provided safe haven to many freedom fighters working against British rule.
