This legend explains the coastal formation of the region. Arjun is a different figure from the Mahabharata, while Kadamba refers to a dynasty that ruled Goa much later.

The historic Goa opinion poll was conducted on 16th January 1967 to determine whether Goa should remain a Union Territory or merge with Maharashtra. The people voted to retain Goa's separate status as a Union Territory. December 1961 marks Operation Vijay when India liberated Goa from Portuguese rule, not the opinion poll.

Goddess Saraswati is the Hindu deity of wisdom, knowledge, music, arts, and learning. She is typically depicted holding a veena (musical instrument) and seated on a lotus. Durga represents power, Lakshmi is wealth, and Parvati is Shiva's consort.

Reita Faria, a Goan beauty, became the first Indian to win the Miss World title in 1966. She was a medical student at the time and later became a doctor. This was a significant milestone as India's first major international beauty pageant victory.

St. Francis Xavier is known as 'Goemcho Saib' (Lord of Goa) in Konkani. He was a Jesuit missionary who spent significant time in Goa and his body is enshrined in the Basilica of Bom Jesus in Old Goa. He is deeply revered in Goan Catholic culture.

Basant Panchmi is the kite flying festival most popular in North Indian states like Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh. It marks the arrival of spring and is celebrated with great enthusiasm. Lohri is a harvest festival, while Independence Day and Republic Day are national holidays not associated with kite flying.
