The Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam, Tamil Nadu, has the tallest gopuram (temple tower) in India at approximately 239 feet (73 meters). The Rajagopuram of this temple, built in the Dravidian architectural style, is an imposing structure visible from miles away. While Madurai's Meenakshi Temple is also famous for its gopurams, Srirangam's is the tallest.

The Brihadeeswarar Temple (also known as the Tanjore Big Temple or Peruvudaiyaar Kovil) was built by the Chola emperor Rajaraja I (Rajaraja Cholan) between 1003 and 1010 AD. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the largest temples in India and a masterpiece of Dravidian architecture. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and represents the height of Chola temple architecture.

The Chitirai Tiruvizha is the annual festival celebrated at the Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai, marking the celestial wedding of Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar. Srirangam, Kanyakumari, and Thiruchendur are important pilgrimage sites but are not associated with this specific festival.

Kanjanur is the Navagraha temple dedicated to Lord Sukran (Venus), one of the nine planetary deities in Tamil Nadu. Alangudi is for Guru (Jupiter), Keezhaperumpallam for Ketu, and Thingalur for Chandran (Moon).

Qutub Minar was built by Qutb-ud-din Aibak, Red Fort by Shah Jahan, and Charminar by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah.

Jantar Mantar is an astronomical observatory built by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur in the early 18th century. There are five Jantar Mantar complexes in India (Delhi, Jaipur, Ujjain, Varanasi, and Mathura) containing large-scale architectural instruments for measuring time, predicting eclipses, and tracking stars and planets.

Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha) attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodhgaya, Bihar. Lumbini is his birthplace (in Nepal), Kushinagar is where he attained Mahaparinirvana (death), and Sarnath is where he gave his first sermon (Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta). Bodhgaya remains the most important pilgrimage site for Buddhists.

Charminar was built by Mohammed Quli Qutab Shah in 1591 to commemorate the end of a plague epidemic in Hyderabad. The iconic monument has four minarets (char-minar) marking the four cardinal directions. Other options are mosques built in different periods - Jama Masjid and Mecca Masjid are in Hyderabad, while Toli Masjid is smaller.

The Brihadisvara Temple (also called Rajarajesvara Temple) was built by Rajaraja Chola I of the Chola dynasty and completed in 1010 CE. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is dedicated to Lord Shiva and showcases the zenith of Chola temple architecture. Marthanda Varma was a Travancore ruler, Tipu Sultan ruled Mysore, and Vikramaditya refers to multiple kings across eras.

The Gateway of India was built in 1924 to commemorate the 1911 visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Bombay (Mumbai). This Indo-Saracenic arch overlooks the Arabian Sea and was the symbolic gateway for British viceroys and governors. India Gate is in Delhi, Victoria Terminus (CSMT) is a railway station, and Elephanta Caves are ancient rock-cut temples.

Karla Caves, located in Lonavala district of Maharashtra, are among the best-preserved Buddhist rock-cut caves dating back to 2nd century BCE. The Great Chaitya at Karla is the largest of its kind in India. Other options are northern states - Madhya Pradesh has Bhimbetka caves, while Uttarakhand and UP have different Buddhist sites.

The Sun Temple at Konark (Odisha) is shaped like a colossal chariot with 12 pairs of elaborately carved wheels, pulled by seven horses. Dedicated to the Sun God (Surya), this 13th-century Kalinga architecture marvel is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lotus Temple is a modern Bahá'í house of worship, Surya Pahar is in Assam, and Jagannath Temple is also in Puri but not chariot-shaped.

The Taj Mahal was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan between 1632-1653 as a mausoleum for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. This ivory-white marble masterpiece on the Yamuna river banks is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and symbol of Mughal architecture. Qutub Minar was built by Qutub-ud-din Aibak, Red Fort by Shah Jahan himself as a palace, and Fatehpur Sikri by Akbar.

Kaziranga National Park in Assam harbours the world's largest population of one-horned rhinoceros (about 2,400+ individuals). This UNESCO World Heritage Site also has tigers, elephants, and water buffaloes. Periyar and Kanha are known for elephants/tigers, while Corbett is famed for tigers.

Mohini Attam is a classical dance form that originated in Kerala, one of the eight classical dance forms of India. The name itself means 'dance of the enchantress' in Malayalam, and it's deeply rooted in Kerala's temple traditions.

Jharkhand became India's 28th state on November 15, 2000, after being carved out of Bihar. This was part of the reorganization of states based on language and regional identity, fulfilling long-standing demands for a separate state for tribal regions.

Sanjay Gandhi National Park, formerly known as Borivali National Park, is Mumbai's famous city forest. It's one of the few national parks located within a city's limits and is known for its leopard population and rich biodiversity.
