Indian Culture: Hindu Mythology, Chakras, and Classical Music

Krupaya Palaya is a well-known composition by Maharaja Swathi Thirunal in the raga Charukesi. Charukesi is a sampurna raga with a distinctive ascending and descending scale pattern. Sarasaangi, Saramathi, and Tarangini are ragas with entirely different melodic structures and emotional flavors.

The bhajan 'Vishweshwar Darshan Kar Chal Man Thum Kaashi' is composed by Swathi Thirunal in Sindhu Bhairavi raga. Sindhu Bhairavi is a janya raga of Nata Bhairavi that has both Carnatic and Hindustani equivalents, making it ideal for bhajans with cross-tradition appeal. Manipura chakra (solar plexus chakra) is associated with the fire element, representing transformation, power, and digestion. Located in the navel region, it governs personal power, will, and metabolic processes. Earth and water correspond to lower chakras (Muladhara and Swadhisthana).

Ashok Vatika (also spelled Ashoka Vatika) was the beautiful garden in Lanka where Ravana kept Sita after her abduction. According to Ramayana, this was where Hanuman first met Sita while searching for her. Lanka is the name of the island kingdom, while Dandakaranya was the forest where Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana lived during their exile.

Anjanisuta means 'son of Anjani' in Sanskrit, referring to Lord Hanuman whose mother was Anjani. This name emphasizes Hanuman's divine birth as the son of the apsara Anjana (or Anjani) and Vayu, the wind god. Lord Vishnu, Shiva, and Indra are not associated with this name.

The Agnya chakra (third eye chakra) is traditionally not associated with any of the four classical elements (earth, water, fire, air). It represents light, consciousness, and transcendence beyond the physical elements. The lower six chakras correspond to earth, water, fire, air, space, and mind, while Agnya represents a higher state of awareness.

Anahata chakra (heart chakra) is associated with the air element, representing love, compassion, and the bridge between physical and spiritual realms. Located at the center of the chest, it governs emotional balance and relationships. Earth, water, and fire correspond to lower chakras.

Madri was the mother of Nakula and Sahadeva, the two youngest Pandavas. She was the second wife of King Pandu and invoked the Ashwini Kumaras to beget her twin sons. Kunti was the mother of the three elder Pandavas (Yudhishthira, Bhima, and Arjuna), while Yashoda was Krishna's foster mother and Devaki was Krishna's birth mother.

Hidimba (also called Hidimbi) was a rakshashi who fell in love with Bhima during the Pandavas' exile. They married and had a son named Ghatotkacha who fought in the Kurukshetra war. The other options are Bhima's brothers or cousins, not Hidimba's husband.

He came to Hastinapura after his sister's marriage to Dhritarashtra and became the key conspirator against the Pandavas. His kingdom was Gandhar, not Hastinapur, Kashi, or Patliputra.

Lord Krishna and Sudama studied together at the ashrama of Rishi Sandipani (also spelled Saandipani) in Ujjain. This is where their famous friendship began. Sandipani was their guru, and Krishna even brought his guru's dead son back from Yamaloka as guru dakshina.

Sanjay (also called Sanjaya) was Dhritarashtra's charioteer and advisor who narrated the entire Kurukshetra war to him. He received divine vision (divya drishti) from Ved Vyasa, allowing him to see and describe everything happening on the battlefield. This narration forms the basis of the Bhagavad Gita and war chapters in Mahabharata.

Maricha was a rakshasa who helped Ravana kidnap Sita by transforming into a beautiful golden deer. He took this form to distract Rama and Lakshmana, allowing Ravana to abduct Sita. He was killed by Rama's arrow while in deer form. The other options are different rakshasas or characters from the epics.
