Kaikeyi, one of King Dasharatha's three wives in the Ramayana, was manipulated by her maid Manthara into demanding that her son Bharatha be crowned king instead of Rama. She reminded the king of the two boons he had promised her years earlier, using them to banish Rama to the forest for 14 years. Kausalya was Rama's mother, Sumithra was Lakshmana's mother, and Kooni (Manthara) was the manipulative maid who instigated Kaikeyi.

King Dasharatha had officially designated Rama, his eldest and most virtuous son, as the heir to the throne of Ayodhya. The entire kingdom was preparing for Rama's coronation when Kaikeyi dramatically demanded that Bharatha be crowned instead, forcing Rama into exile. This was the central conflict that set the Ramayana's plot in motion. Rama was the eldest and most qualified, while Bharatha was Kaikeyi's son, Lakshmana was Rama's loyal brother, and Kooni was the manipulative maid.

Lakshmana, Rama's younger brother, chose to accompany him and Sita into their 14-year exile in the forest, leaving behind all royal comforts. His unwavering devotion and service to Rama exemplify the ideal brotherly relationship in Hindu epics. While Bharatha ruled Ayodhya as Rama's regent and Dasaratha was their father, Lakshmana remained by Rama's side throughout the exile. Ravana was the demon king who abducted Sita, not Rama's brother.

Sita is considered the avatar of Goddess Lakshmi, who is Vishnu's divine consort and the goddess of wealth, fortune, and prosperity. Just as Rama is Vishnu's avatar, Sita is Lakshmi's incarnation on earth, maintaining their divine partnership across lifetimes. Durga and Kali are powerful goddesses in their own right, while Krishna is another avatar of Vishnu himself, not a spouse.
