HDI Ranking of Countries

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) is the UN agency responsible for calculating and publishing the HDI.

The HDI is calculated using three dimensions: Health (measured by life expectancy), Education (measured by mean years of schooling and expected years of schooling), and Income (measured by Gross National Income (GNI) per capita).

Norway has consistently ranked highest in the HDI since 2009, followed by Switzerland, Singapore, and Canada.

Niger has consistently ranked lowest in the HDI among all countries, followed by Central African Republic, South Sudan, and Chad.

Europe and North America have the highest average HDI score, followed by Asia and the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Sub-Saharan Africa has the lowest average HDI score, followed by Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia and the Pacific, and Europe and North America.

The average HDI score for all countries in the world is approximately 0.7.

Russia has the highest HDI score among the BRICS nations, followed by Brazil, China, and India.

India has the lowest HDI score among the G20 nations, followed by Indonesia, South Africa, and Mexico.

The goal of the HDI is to measure human well-being by combining indicators of health, education, and income.

Sri Lanka has the highest HDI score in South Asia, followed by India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.

Singapore has the highest HDI score in East Asia, followed by Japan, South Korea, and China.

Chile has the highest HDI score in Latin America and the Caribbean, followed by Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico.

Mauritius has the highest HDI score in Sub-Saharan Africa, followed by South Africa, Botswana, and Namibia.
