Indian Mythology and Festivals

In the Mahabharata, Indra begged Karna for his kavacha (armor) and kundala (earrings). Karna, born with natural armor that made him invincible, was approached by Indra disguised as a Brahmin. Despite knowing the true identity, Karna generously gave away his divine protection, which made him vulnerable and ultimately led to his death. Krishna and Kuber were not involved in this incident.

In the Mahabharata, Shakuni's pasha (dice) was made from the bone of his father, Subala. According to the epic, after Shakuni's relatives were imprisoned by Dhritarashtra and died of starvation, Subala asked Shakuni to make dice from his thigh bone, which would always help him win and destroy the Kaurava clan. The dice were not made of mud, wood, or any other material.

Jarasandha was the powerful king of Magadha in the Mahabharata. He was a major antagonist who had imprisoned many kings and was eventually killed by Bhima in a wrestling match during Krishna's plan to eliminate him. Jarasandha was not from Malla, Batsya, or Matsya - these were different kingdoms in ancient India.

Deepawli (Diwali) celebrates Lord Rama's return to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile, as described in the Ramayana. The festival marks his victory over Ravana and coronation as king. Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva are central to other Hindu festivals but not Diwali's primary narrative.

Deepawli is known as 'Tihar' in Nepal, where it's a five-day festival similar to Diwali. Tihar involves worship of various animals and goddess Lakshmi, with brothers being honored on the final day. While other listed nations celebrate Diwali, 'Tihar' is specifically the Nepali name.

During Deepawli, Eastern and North-Eastern India celebrates Kali Puja, worshipping Goddess Kali on the new moon night. This tradition is particularly strong in West Bengal, Odisha, and Assam. The festival coincides with Diwali but has distinct cultural significance and rituals.

Loy Krathong (sometimes spelled Lam Kriyongh) is Thailand's festival of lights, celebrated in October-November. The festival involves floating krathongs (lotus-shaped baskets) on water and is similar to Diwali in its celebration of light.

Dhanteras is the first day of Deepawli, celebrated two days before the main Diwali day. On this day, people worship Goddess Lakshmi and purchase precious metals, believing it brings prosperity. The name derives from 'Dhan' (wealth) and 'Teras' (13th day of lunar fortnight).

During Dussehra, effigies of Ravana, his brother Kumbhakarna, and son Meghnad (also called Indrajit) are burned. This symbolizes the victory of good over evil as described in the Ramayana. Meghnad was a powerful warrior who fought against Lord Rama's army.

Vyasa's father was the sage Parasara, making him Parasara's son. Vyasa is a central figure in Hindu tradition, credited with compiling the Vedas and composing the Mahabharata. The other options are famous sages but not his father.

Lord Ganesha is traditionally believed to have written down the Mahabharata as Vyasa recited it. According to legend, Ganesha agreed to be the scribe on condition that Vyasa would not pause. This explains the epic's complex narrative structure. The other figures are not associated with this role.

During Ajnathavasa (the year of incognito living), Yudhishthira took the name Kankan, serving as a charioteer in the Matsya kingdom. He worked disguised as a charioteer to avoid detection by the Kauravas. This was one of the conditions of the Pandavas' exile.

Karna killed Ghatotkacha on the 14th day of the Kurukshetra war using the divine weapon Shakti, granted by Indra. Ghatotkacha was Bhima's son and a formidable rakshasa warrior. This forced Karna to use his one-time divine weapon, weakening him for his final confrontation with Arjuna.

Yudhishtira was born to Kunti through her invocation of Yama, the God of Dharma and Justice. While Pandu was his legal father and king, Yama was his biological father via the divine boon granted to Kunti by Sage Durvasa.

Dhritarashtra was born to Queen Ambika through Sage Vyasa, after her husband Vichitravirya died without an heir. Vyasa was called upon to father children on behalf of the dead king to continue the royal line.

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna killed Narakasura accompanied by his wife Satyabhama. She played a crucial role in the battle, as Narakasura could only be killed by a woman, and she struck the final blow.

Jarasandha was the powerful King of Magadha, a major kingdom in ancient India. He was an antagonist in the Mahabharata and was killed by Bhima in a wrestling duel during Krishna's strategy to eliminate the allies of the Kauravas.

In the Mahabharata, Pareekshit (also spelled Parikshit) was the son of Arjuna's son Abhimanyu and his wife Uttara (Uthara). Uttara was carrying Pareekshit when Abhimanyu was killed in the Kurukshetra war, and the child was born after the war. Subhadra was Arjuna's wife and Abhimanyu's mother, making her Pareekshit's grandmother.

Kunti had six sons: Yudhishthira, Bhima, Arjuna, Karna (born through Surya before marriage), and through Madri's blessing - Nakula and Sahadeva. Nakula was Madri's son, not Kunti's biological son.
