The Great Sandy Desert is the largest desert in Australia, covering approximately 284,993 square kilometres in Western Australia and the Northern Territory. There is no single 'Great Australian Desert' - Australia has multiple desert regions.

Tasmania is Australia's smallest state by area (68,401 km²). The Northern Territory is not a state, while NSW and WA are much larger. Tasmania is an island state south of the mainland.
