Renewable Energy Capacity Building Initiatives

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is the nodal agency of the Government of India responsible for promoting and coordinating renewable energy initiatives, including capacity building programs.

The Renewable Energy Capacity Building Program (RECAP) aims to enhance the technical and managerial skills of professionals working in the renewable energy sector, enabling them to effectively contribute to the growth and development of the industry.

Financial assistance for renewable energy projects is not a key component of the RECAP program. The program primarily focuses on capacity building initiatives, such as training, mentorship, and curriculum development.

The RECAP program was initially launched for a period of 10 years, starting from 2010. It has since been extended for an additional 5 years, until 2025.

The National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) is the nodal agency responsible for implementing the RECAP program. NISE is a premier research and training institute dedicated to the field of solar energy.

The RECAP program targets a wide range of audience, including renewable energy professionals, students and researchers, policymakers and regulators, and other stakeholders involved in the renewable energy sector.

As of 2022, more than 300 training programs have been conducted under the RECAP program, benefiting over 10,000 participants.

The RECAP e-Learning Portal is an online platform launched by MNRE to provide access to training resources and materials, including video lectures, presentations, and course modules, related to renewable energy.

The Renewable Energy Entrepreneurship Development Program (REEDP) is an initiative launched by MNRE to promote entrepreneurship in the renewable energy sector by providing training, mentorship, and financial support to aspiring entrepreneurs.

Research and development grants are not a component of the REEDP program. The program primarily focuses on entrepreneurship training, mentorship, and financial support.

As of 2022, more than 200 entrepreneurs have been supported under the REEDP program, leading to the establishment of over 100 renewable energy startups.
