Cricket World Cup History and Records

Sourav Ganguly scored a century (173 runs) against Australia in Australia during the 1999-2000 VB Series, becoming the first Indian to do so in ODIs. This was a historic achievement in Indian cricket.

Matt Prior scored 110 on his Test debut at Lord's in 2007 against the West Indies. Ganguly scored 131 but not on debut, Strauss debuted in 2004 at Lord's but didn't score a century, and Pietersen's debut was at Lord's in 2005 with scores of 57 and 64.

Adam Gilchrist, Nathan Astle, Shahid Afridi, and Sanath Jayasuriya were all aggressive hitters but don't hold this Test record.

All four options are correct for the 1996 World Cup. A) Man of the Match was shared between v. c&l. B) West Indies forfeited their semifinal against Sri Lanka. C) Sri Lanka batting second won the final - the first time in World Cup history. D) Sri Lanka won without beating even half the teams (only played and beat 4 out of 12 teams). All these were unprecedented in World Cup history at that time.

Javed Miandad famously imitated wicketkeeper Kiran More's exaggerated jumping during the 1992 World Cup match between India and Pakistan, creating one of cricket's most memorable on-field incidents. Wasim Akram, Saeed Anwar, and Aamir Sohail were other Pakistani players in that match.

Sachin Tendulkar scored a half-century and took the crucial wicket of Aamir Sohail in the 1992 World Cup match against Pakistan, earning him Player of the Match. Ajay Jadeja, Azhar, and Kapil Dev were other Indian players but didn't have the all-round performance.

Robin Uthappa scored 50 runs off 39 balls against Pakistan in the 2007 T20 World Cup, becoming the first Indian to score a half-century in T20 International cricket. Sachin, Yusuf Pathan, and Sehwag were other notable Indian batsmen.

Aamir Sohail captained Pakistan in the 1996 World Cup quarter-final against India when regular captain Wasim Akram withdrew due to a finger injury. Javed Miandad was a senior player, while Shahid Afridi and Iqbal Hameed were not captains.

Joginder Sharma dismissed Misbah-ul-Haq (caught by Sreesanth) in the final over of the 2007 T20 World Cup, clinching the title for India. MS Dhoni was the captain, Yusuf Pathan a batsman, and Sreesanth took the catch but didn't bowl the delivery.

Yusuf Pathan made his international debut in the 2007 T20 World Cup final and hit a six off the very first ball he faced, which was also the first ball of the match. Sreesanth, Rohit Sharma, and Robin Uthappa were already established players by then.

Sadagoppan Ramesh replaced Saurav Ganguly in the Indian squad for the 1999 World Cup match when Ganguly was injured on the eve of the match. VVS Laxman, Robin Uthappa, and Zaheer Khan were other Indian players but not the replacement.

Venkatesh Prasad won Player of the Match in the 1999 World Cup encounter for his career-best bowling figures of 5-27. Javagal Srinath and Anil Kumble were other Indian bowlers, while Sachin Tendulkar was a batsman.

Saeed Anwar scored 105 runs against India in the 1996 World Cup quarter-final at Bangalore, which remains the only century by any batsman in India-Pakistan World Cup matches. No other batsman from either team has scored a hundred in World Cup encounters between these arch-rivals.
