Weightlifting Controversies

Akakios Kakiasvilis was stripped of his gold medal in the men's 94 kg weightlifting event after testing positive for the banned substance nandrolone.

Russia was banned from competing in weightlifting at the 2016 Summer Olympics due to widespread doping. The ban was imposed by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) after an investigation found that the Russian weightlifting program was riddled with doping.

Rashid Sharifi was caught using a fake penis to pass a drug test in 2016. The incident occurred at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Sharifi was subsequently banned from weightlifting for four years.

Naim Suleymanoglu was accused of using a motorized belt to lift more weight at the 1996 Summer Olympics. The allegations were never proven, but they led to a great deal of controversy.
