School Psychology and Academic Success

School psychologists play a multifaceted role in promoting academic success, including conducting psychological assessments, providing individual and group counseling, and developing and implementing school-wide interventions.

While high intelligence can be a contributing factor to academic success, it is not a necessary or sufficient condition. Many students with average or even below-average intelligence achieve academic success through hard work, effective study skills, and positive peer relationships.

A multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) is a comprehensive school-based program that provides a range of support services to students with academic, social, and emotional needs. MTSS is designed to identify students who are struggling and provide them with the necessary support to succeed.

Personality tests are typically not used by school psychologists to evaluate a student's academic skills. However, school psychologists may use personality tests to assess a student's social-emotional functioning.
