Anil Kumble was the icon player and captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the inaugural IPL season. He was India's premier spinner at the time and led the team's bowling attack. Sunil Gavaskar broke Geoff Boycott's record for most Test runs when he became the highest run-scorer. Boycott had held the record before Gavaskar surpassed him. Andy Sandham scored 325 for England against South Africa in 1930, which was the first triple century in Test cricket history. This record stood until Don Bradman scored his famous 334 shortly after. Donald Bradman actually scored the second triple century, Bill Ponsford scored triple centuries later, and Wally Hammond was another great English batsman but not the first to 300.

Mohammad Azharuddin played 99 Test matches for India between 1984 and 2000. He was one of India's most successful captains and a stylish middle-order batsman. The numbers 93, 101, and 107 are incorrect - Azharuddin's exact Test match count was 99.

In the 1998 Independence Cup final in Dhaka, Sourav Ganguly scored 124 off 107 balls. Robin Singh contributed with a crucial cameo, making him the second-highest scorer in that innings. This was part of India's victory over Pakistan in the tri-series final.
