Sustainable Development Goals

The five Ps of sustainable development are People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnership. Profit is not included as it is often seen as being in conflict with the other four Ps.

SDG 1 aims to eradicate extreme poverty for all people everywhere, currently defined as living on less than $1.90 per day.

SDG 7 aims to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all, including electricity, cooking fuels, and heating and cooling.

SDG 13 aims to take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts, with the goal of limiting global temperature rise to well below 2 degrees Celsius, preferably to 1.5 degrees Celsius, compared to pre-industrial levels.

SDG 5 aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls, including eliminating all forms of discrimination against women and girls, and ensuring their full and effective participation in all aspects of life.

SDG 16 aims to promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all, and build effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels.

SDG 11 aims to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.

SDG 2 aims to end hunger and malnutrition, achieve food security, and promote sustainable agriculture. Its targets include ending hunger by 2030, halving the number of people suffering from hunger by 2030, and reducing the number of people suffering from malnutrition by 2030.

SDG 12 aims to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns, including reducing waste and promoting resource efficiency.

SDG 17 aims to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development, including mobilizing financial resources, promoting technology transfer, and enhancing capacity-building.

SDG 14 aims to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development.

SDG 4 aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. Its targets include ensuring that all children complete free and equitable primary and secondary education by 2030, ensuring that all girls and boys have access to quality early childhood development, care, and pre-primary education, and increasing the number of youth and adults who have relevant skills for employment, decent jobs, and entrepreneurship.

SDG 15 aims to protect, restore, and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and biodiversity loss.

SDG 3 aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. Its targets include reducing the global maternal mortality ratio, ending the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, and neglected tropical diseases, and ensuring universal access to sexual and reproductive health-care services.

SDG 8 aims to promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all.
