Inter-State Councils

The first Inter-State Council meeting was held on June 14, 1990, under the chairmanship of the then Prime Minister, V. P. Singh.

The Prime Minister of India is the ex-officio chairperson of the Inter-State Council.

The Inter-State Council consists of 30 members, including the Prime Minister, the Chief Ministers of all the states, and the Governors of all the states.

The main function of the Inter-State Council is to resolve disputes between states, promote cooperation between states, and advise the central government on inter-state matters.
