Gravity is the force that keeps objects held against surfaces on Earth. Without gravity, there would be no downward force to keep the paper on the desk, causing it to float away if disturbed.

Gravity is the fundamental force of attraction that pulls objects toward the center of the Earth. When a ball is thrown upward, gravity acts to decelerate it and eventually pull it back down to the ground.

Rockets use engines to produce thrust, which is an upward force. When this thrust is greater than the downward force of gravity, the rocket can lift off and accelerate away from the Earth.

An apple falling from a tree is moving in the direction of gravitational pull. Therefore, it is not overcoming gravity; it is being moved by it.

A kite flying in the sky is held up against the pull of gravity by the lift generated by the wind. Because it stays aloft, it is effectively overcoming gravity.

Skiing down a hill involves moving in the direction of the gravitational pull. Gravity is actually helping the skier move down the slope, not being overcome.

An airplane taking off uses lift from its wings and thrust from its engines to move upward. This upward movement is a direct opposition to the downward pull of gravity.

When you catch a ball, you are applying an external force that stops its motion. If the ball was falling, you are counteracting the acceleration caused by gravity, thus overcoming its effect on the ball's motion.

Jumping into a pool involves moving toward the water, which is in the direction of gravity. You are falling into the pool, not overcoming the force pulling you down.
