Subramaniya Siva (4October 1884 23 July 1925) was an Indian writer and activist during the Indian independence movement. Subramaniya Siva was born in an Iyer family at Batlagundu near Dindigul in erstwhile Madurai district of Madras presidency. He was born to Rajam Iyer. He joined the Indian freedom movement in 1908.

CN Annadurai actually joined DK party of Periyar but due to some deference he got separated from the DK and formed DMK.

In May 1884, M. Veeraraghavachariar, G. Subramania Iyer and P. Anandacharlu established the Madras Mahajana Sabha. The office of the Sabha functioned in the beginning at the office of The Hindu, Ellis Road Junction, Mount Road. P. Rangaiah Naidu was elected President of the Sabha in 1885.

CN Annadurai was the prominent writer of Tamil language, who was the follower of Periyar and leter become CM of Tamil Nadu.

On 23 February 1908 Chidambaram gave a speech at Thoothukudi, encouraging the workers at Coral Mill (now part of Madura Coats) to protest against their low wages and harsh working conditions. Four days later, the workers of the Coral Mill went on strike. Chidambaram and Subramanya Siva led the strike. Their demands included incremental earnings, weekly holidays and other leave facilities.

In 1908, Subramaniya Siva was arrested by the British and was the first political prisoner  in Madras jail. While serving a prison term, he was afflicted by leprosy and was shifted to Salem jail. Since leprosy was regarded as a contagious disease, the British authorities forbade him to travel by rail after his release and hence he was forced to travel on foot.

 In 1930, Rajagopalachari risked imprisonment when he led the Vedaranyam Salt Satyagraha in response to the Dandi March. In 1937, Rajagopalachari was elected Premier of the Madras Presidency and served until 1940, when he resigned due to Britain's declaration of war on Germany.

Vanchinathan who was just 25, assassinated Ashe, the district collector of Tirunelveli, who was also known as Collector Dorai. He shot Ashe at point-blank range when Ashe's train had stopped at the Maniyachi station, en route to Madras. He committed suicide thereafter. The railway station has since been renamed Vanchi Maniyachi.

Chinnaswami Subramania Bharati (11 December 1882 11 September 1921) was an Indian writer, poet, journalist, Indian independence activist and social reformer from Tamil Nadu. Popularly known as "Mahakavi Bharati", he was a pioneer of modern Tamil poetry and is considered one of the greatest Tamil literary figures of all time.

On 17 June 1911, Vanchinathan shot Ashe, the district collector of Tirunelveli, who was also known as Collector Dorai. He shot Ashe at point-blank range when Ashe's train had stopped at the Maniyachi station, en route to Madras. He committed suicide thereafter. The railway station has since been renamed Vanchi Maniyachi

In 1919, Sundara Sastri Satyamurti was chosen by the Congress as its representative to Britain to protest the Rowlatt Act and the Montagu-Chelmsford reforms that were unpopular within India.

Kumarasami Kamaraj , was a leader of the Indian National Congress, widely acknowledged as the "Kingmaker" in Indian politics during the 1960s. He served as Congress president for four years between 1964-1967 and was responsible for the elevation of Lal Bahadur Shastri to the position of Prime Minister of India after Indira Gandhi turned down the same at the time of Jawaharlal Nehru death.

Sundara Sastri Satyamurti, an Indian independence activist and leading Congress politician of Madras Presidency, was born on 19 August 1887 in Thirumayam (Pudukkottai) in present-day Tamil Nadu. He died on 28 March 1943. He is also regarded as the mentor of Madras state chief minister and senior Congress leader K. Kamaraj.

Tiruppur Kumaran (04th October 1904 11 January 1932) was an Indian revolutionary who participated in the Indian independence movement. Kumaran was born in Chennimalai in Madras Presidency, British India (current Erode district in Tamil Nadu). He founded Desa Bandhu Youth Association and led protests against the British.

M.G.Ramachandran in 1972 launched a political party after the name of CN Anndurai which was Anna Dravida (ADMK)

The Vellore Mutiny of 1806 was a significant precursor to the 1857 Revolt, involving Indian sepoys protesting against changes in uniform regulations that offended their religious sentiments.

C Subramania Bharati was a Tamil writer, poet, journalist, Indian independence activist and social reformer from Tamil Nadu, India. He belonged to the Extremist wing of the Congress party. He participated in the historic Surat Congress in 1907 and  supported Tilak's extremist views.

C. Rajagopalachari was born on 10, December 1878 at Thorappalli. He became the staunch follower of Gandhiji. In 1930, he broke the salt laws at Vedaranyam. He started his march to Vedaranyam from Thiruchirapali with hundreds of volunteers to break the salt laws.

General Sir John Craddock was Commander-in-Chief of the Madras Army at the time of Vellore mutiny, made it compulsory for all solders to wear a round hat, which was largely associated with Europeans and Christians in place of the turban they had been wearing.

Periyar who was the leader of respect movement in Madras was earlier present in Congress Party.

Periyar who was the prominent leader of Proviency of Madras imprisoned due to struggling against compulsory teaching of Hindi in schools of Madras.

In 1937 Justice Party lost election against National Congress after that it came under the leadership of Periyar E. V. Ramaswamy and converted into Dravida Kazhagam (DK) in 1944.

On July 10th 1806, the Vellore mutiny broke out against the British by south Indian soldiers at Vellore (now in Tamil Nadu). The Vellore Mutiny was the first large-scale mutiny by Indian soldiers against the British, setting the stage for the 1857 mutiny.

Like the 1857 mutiny, the foundation of this mutiny was a religious one too. The sepoy dress code was changed in 1805 under which Hindu soldiers were not allowed to wear any kind of religious marks on their foreheads and it was made mandatory for Muslims to shave their beards and trim their mustaches.

In response to the British India Steam Navigation Company's trade monopoly, Chidambaram started an Indian-owned shipping company. He registered the Swadeshi Shipping Company in October 1906.

From 1892, Chidambaram was influenced by Bal Gangadhar Tilak Maharaj and become his disciple. He become a prominent spokesperson for the cause in Madras Presidency.

CN Annadurai was the prominent Tamil writer who letter become Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. During his tenure he renamed Madras to Tamil Nadu.
