Making of the Indian Constitution

Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Divas, is celebrated in India on 26 November to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India in 1949.

The Constitution of India came into effect on 26 January 1950, which is celebrated as Republic Day. The year 1850 is historically incorrect as the British Raj was still in power.

The partition of India and Pakistan caused massive displacement, violence, and trauma for millions of people on both sides of the border, not just in India.

Elections for the members of the Constituent Assembly were held in July 1946, following the proposals of the Cabinet Mission Plan.

It took approximately two years, eleven months, and eighteen days to draft the Constitution of India, which is significantly longer than just two years.

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was the chairman of the Drafting Committee, which was tasked with writing the final version of the Constitution.
