In Hinduism, fulfilling one's dharma, or caste-specific duties, is the essential path to accumulating good karma. This spiritual progress eventually leads to moksha, which is liberation or salvation from the cycle of rebirth. While moral values are important, they are structurally organized through these caste duties in traditional Hindu belief.

Siddhartha Gautama was born into a royal family in the Shakya clan, which ruled an area near the Himalayas. As members of the ruling and military elite, his family belonged to the Kshatriya caste. This background provided him with the luxury he eventually chose to renounce.

In Buddhist philosophy, Dharma refers to the cosmic law and order that governs the universe. It also represents the universal truths taught by the Buddha to help individuals achieve enlightenment. While karma is the law of cause and effect, Dharma is the overarching order of the cosmos.
