Antarctica is located at the South Pole, making it the southernmost continent on Earth. The northernmost part of Earth is the Arctic, which surrounds the North Pole.

Extreme environments are places where conditions are exceptionally harsh, making it very difficult for most life forms to survive, such as deserts, outer space, and volcanoes. Rainforests, by contrast, are highly hospitable environments characterized by abundant water, warmth, and biodiversity.
