Rainforests

Approximately 56,000 square miles of rainforest are lost each year due to deforestation and land clearing. This is equivalent to losing an area of forest the size of a football field every second.

The Amazon Basin alone contains about one-fifth (20%) of the world's fresh water. Tropical rainforests play a crucial role in the global water cycle by recycling huge volumes of water.
