Introduction to Cell Biology

Chloroplasts perform photosynthesis, using sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to produce glucose, which is chemical food for the plant. While this process ultimately provides energy for the plant, the direct chemical product synthesized is food (glucose).

Muscle cells are specialized for contraction (shortening) and relaxation (returning to their resting length), which allows for movement in the body. They do not "eat" or "withdraw" in a physiological sense.

An organelle is a specialized subunit within a cell that has a specific function, analogous to an organ in the body. While the nucleus is an example of an organelle, the general term for any such small structure is "organelle." Organs and tissues are multicellular levels of organization.

Plants are autotrophs, meaning they use sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to produce their own food (glucose) through photosynthesis. They cannot make sunlight, which comes from the Sun.

Other parts like the cytoplasm provide a medium for organelles, but do not direct cell activities.

The cell is the basic structural, functional, and biological unit of all known living organisms. According to cell theory, all living things are composed of one or more cells. Organs and nuclei are structures within or made of cells, rather than the fundamental unit of life itself.

Cellular respiration is the metabolic process where mitochondria break down glucose in the presence of oxygen to produce ATP, releasing energy for the cell. Osmosis is the passive movement of water across a membrane, and cellular regeneration refers to tissue repair. Therefore, cellular respiration is the correct term.
