The Wright Brothers

Neil Armstrong carried a piece of wood from the original 1903 Wright Flyer during the Apollo 11 mission to the moon. This was a tribute to the pioneers of flight.

Orville Wright was involved in a crash in 1908 at Fort Myer, Virginia, which resulted in the death of his passenger, Lieutenant Thomas Selfridge. This is widely considered the first fatal airplane crash.
