Relative humidity is defined as the ratio of the actual water vapor content to the maximum possible water vapor content at a given temperature. It is not a direct measure of the actual vapor content itself, which is defined by absolute humidity or vapor pressure.

In Polar Regions, the air is extremely cold, which significantly lowers the air's capacity to hold water vapor. Consequently, even small amounts of moisture result in high relative humidity, often reaching saturation levels near 100 percent.

Actual vapor pressure is a measure of the amount of water vapor in the air. If the temperature increases but no water vapor is added or removed, the amount of water vapor remains constant, and thus the actual vapor pressure stays the same.

Meteorologists use millibars (mb) or hectopascals (hPa) as the standard units for atmospheric pressure on surface weather maps. These units are preferred for their consistency in scientific calculations.

Humidity is the general term used to describe the amount of water vapor or moisture present in the air.

A maximum-minimum thermometer is a specialized instrument designed to record both the highest and lowest temperatures reached over a specific period, typically 24 hours.
