In human development theory, economic growth is viewed as a tool or means to achieve the broader goal of improving human well-being and expanding choices.

Per capita income only measures economic output, whereas the Human Development Index (HDI) is more comprehensive because it includes health, education, and standard of living.

Human Development Index is a measure of human development over the years which includes per capita income for evaluating the utility which people get from different products, life expectancy which measures the progress made in health and nutrition and educational levels.

While HDI is a useful tool, the standard HDI is not typically disaggregated by race or gender in its primary report format; instead, specific indices like the Gender-related Development Index (GDI) were created for that purpose.

India has consistently been classified in the medium human development category in the UNDP Human Development Reports since the 1990s.

The UNDP has expanded its scope over time to include dimensions like political participation, empowerment, and human rights in its broader human development framework.

The Gender-related Development Index (GDI) was specifically designed by the UNDP to adjust the HDI for gender inequalities in health, education, and income.

The 1997 Human Development Report explicitly defined human development as the process of widening people's choices and raising their well-being.

Mean years of schooling is calculated as the average number of years of education received by people aged 25 and older, based on educational attainment levels.

Population growth is fundamentally determined by the balance of births (natality), deaths (mortality), and the movement of people (migration). These three demographic components dictate whether a population increases or decreases over time.

The sequence explains the theory of demographic transition.Before the economic modernizations, the country had stable or very slow growing population as a result of a combination of high birth rate and almost equally high death rate. With declining death rate but birth rate not falling correspondingly, the country passed through the second stage, marking the beginning of a demographic transition. Finally, the state third comes when the force and influence of modernization and economic development cause fertility to decline so that eventually falling birth rate converge with the lower death rate.

Economic growth is defined as an increase in the production of goods and services in an economy over a specific period, typically measured by GDP.

Economic growth refers to an increase in output, whereas economic development includes qualitative improvements in living standards and social indicators. It is possible to have growth in GDP without corresponding improvements in human development.

Historically, India has been the second most populous country in the world. While recent data suggests it has surpassed China, in the context of standard academic textbooks, it is traditionally cited as 2nd.

Per Capita Income (PCI) is a narrow metric that does not account for income distribution, health, or education. Economic development is a multidimensional concept requiring multiple indicators.

Infant mortality rate is defined as the number of deaths of children under one year of age per 1,000 live births.

Quality of life is a subjective and multidimensional concept involving health, education, environment, and personal well-being, making it difficult to measure precisely.

India is classified as a country with medium human development according to the Human Development Index (HDI) rankings, not low.

According to the Human Development Report classification, countries with an HDI value of 0.8 and above are categorized as having very high human development.

Improvements in healthcare, sanitation, and nutrition in India have led to a steady increase in life expectancy at birth over the decades.

In an under-developed economy, Health and Education standards are low. In underdeveloped countries, quality of the population is not given stressed on and as a result, health and education standards of the population is quite low.Underdeveloped
countries can be referred to those countries which are backward
economically. Overpopulation, income inequalities and under-employment- all prevails in the underdeveloped economy.
