Hindustan Paper Corporation Ltd Township Panchgram is a census town in Hailakandi district in the Indian state of Assam. It is a finest township of the Barak Valley under Hindustan Paper Corporation Limited. It is called as a second Shillong in Barak Valley Area.

Nepanagar, located in Madhya Pradesh, is home to the National Newsprint and Paper Mills, which was the first newsprint manufacturing unit in India.

The Indian Paper Industry is more than a century old. The first paper mill was started in Serampore (West Bengal) in 1812. But this mill did not succeed because of lack of demand for paper. Serampore is a famous and historical city in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is the headquarter of the Srirampore subdivision. It is a pre-colonial town on the west bank of the Hooghly River.

Based on standard industrial data for the region, there are 4 major paper mills operating in Andhra Pradesh.

The first machine-made paper in India was manufactured in 1870 at Ballygunge, near Kolkata, by the Bally Paper Mills Company.

Forest industries are those which are dependent on the materials that are derived from the forestry. Paper, rubber and resin industries are dependant on forests for their raw material. But the raw material for aluminium is bauxite which is found in the earth's crust.

Although raw materials for
paper are available in the forests,
it is not very easily procured.
Paper mills are generally established near forests where bamboo
and other soft wood trees are available.

There are three main stages in paper production, from when the timber arrives at the mill as a raw material right up to the stage when it becomes the final packaged product.

Paper mills require large amounts of wood pulp as a raw material, making it economically efficient to establish them near forest regions to reduce transportation costs.

Paper mills are generally established near forests where bamboo and other soft wood trees are available. Paper mills engage contractors to supply bamboo and other raw materials. Due to excessive cutting in the past, there are no bamboos available in forests near the paper mills now.

Paper mills generally use wood from bamboo, eucalyptus and subabul trees. Subabul wood is most widely used now. Besides wood, a large number of chemicals such as common salt, caustic soda and so on are also used in different stages of paper making. 

In the process of Chipping, large wood
pieces are cut into small chips with the help
of large machines. The chips are
separated according to the size. 

Paper industry is a polluting industry, chemicals are required for making the paper. It also draws a lot of fresh water from the river but lets out wastewater containing poisonous chemicals which eventually joins the river.

Paper is actually made in five
stages. 

 The batch
system allows a factory to produce
continuously throughout the day. It also
allows the managers to trace any mistake
in the product by checking what went wrong
with the particular batch.
