Industrial Revolution and Agricultural Technology

The steam engine was invented by James Watt in 1718. A steam engine is a machine that converts the heat energy of steam into mechanical energy. A steam engine passes its steam into a cylinder, where it then pushes a piston back and forth.

Chemical fertilizers are a modern agricultural innovation and were not available or used during the early Middle Ages.

The first steam engine was invented by Thomas Newcomen in 1712 in England. However, Newcomen's engine was inefficient and could only be used near
coalmines, where coal was abundant and cheap enough to run the engine.
If steam engines were to have wider uses, they needed to be improved. James Watt studied the Newcomen's steam engine and introduced refined steam engine which was more efficient and more powerful in 1765.

The invention of Mariner's compass was a significant one. It is an instrument meant to know directions. Its needle always points to the north.

A dynamo is a device that uses electromagnetism to create a direct current of electrical power. The dynamo was invented by Michael Faraday.

The first passenger railway operated in Great Britain in 1825 between Stockton and Darlington. It used a steam locomotive built by George Stephenson .

Agriculture
is essential to fulfill the need for food. Therefore, a vast system
needs to be created which includes factories to manufacture tools and
equipment used for farming, banks to provide loans to farmers, a market
for the goods produced, etc. The existence of many systems makes  a
stable society.

Sir Henry Bessemer was a prominent British engineer, inventor, and entrepreneur. He developed the first cost-efficient process for the manufacture of steel in 1856.

The first commercially successful steam locomotive named as  "Locomotion No. 1" was created by George Stephenson. It was used to carry passengers on a first public rail line in Britain, between the Stockton and Darlington Railway in 1825 .

The first ever prototype of Davy’s miner’s safety lamp. Created in 1815, it was designed to be lit safely for miners to use without allowing the heat from the flame to explode the concentration of methane gas often found as miners dug deeper.

Henry Cort was an English ironmaster. In 1784 Cort introduced the pudding process for the purification of iron, where molten pig iron was stirred in a reverberatory furnace.

John Smeaton is credited with improvements to the Derby process, which was used in the production of coke for iron smelting.
