Accurate weather prediction can be made only if all the air measurements i.e. temperature, humidity and wind direction are considered. 

An anemometer is the standard instrument used to measure wind speed or velocity.

The Beaufort scale is an empirical measure that relates wind speed to observed conditions at sea or on land. It ranges from 0 (calm) to 12 (hurricane-force winds). Decibels measure sound intensity, Richter scale measures earthquake magnitude, and Fujita scale (misspelled as Fajita here) measures tornado intensity.

By meteorological convention, wind direction is defined as the direction from which the wind is blowing.

Advection refers to the transport of an atmospheric property (like heat or moisture) by the horizontal movement of air (wind).

Anemometer is the instrument used to measure wind velocity. Hydrometer measures specific gravity (or relative density) of liquids. Barometer is used to measure atmospheric pressure. Lactometer measures cream content of milk.
