The Heavy Vehicles Factory, which manufactures the Vijayanta tanks, is located in Avadi, near Chennai.

The migration of the sugar industry to southern states is driven by multiple factors, including higher sugar content due to climate, longer crushing seasons, and better irrigation facilities.

There are 7 public sector shipping industries in India. These are:

Biggest commercial centre of south India is Chennai. It is the capital city of south Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is known as the biggest cultural, economic and educational centre in South India. It is well developed in banking, health care, power and communication departments

India has the second largest installed capacity of spindles in the world, with 43.13 million spindles (30 March 2011) after China. Although India has a large share in world trade of cotton yarn, its trade in garments is only 4% of the world's total.

The Golden Quadrilateral is a national highway network connecting most of the major industrial, agricultural, and cultural centres of India. A quadrilateral is formed by connecting Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, and Mumbai.

• Firozabad is a city in Uttar Pradesh. It is famous for glass bangles. Modern glass bangle manufacturing technology was introduced by "Haji Rustam Ustad". He is called the father of Firozabad glass industry.
  
• Apart from bangles glass from this place is also used to manufacture chandeliers.
  

B. Second

Jute industry is an important industry for a country like India, because not only does it earn foreign exchange but also provides substantial employment opportunities in agriculture and industrial sectors. Its first modernized industrial unit was established at Reshra in West Bengal in 1855. There are at present 73 jute mills in India, out of which West Bengal has 59 mills, Bihar 3 mills, U.P 3 mills, Andhra Pradesh 4 mills and Assam, Tripura, Orissa and M.P one each.

The jute industry in the country is traditionally export oriented. India ranks No. 1 in raw jute and jute goods production and No. 2 in export of jute goods in the world.

Most of the jute mills are located in West Bengal, mainly along the banks of Hooghly River, in a narrow belt. The main factors responsible for their location in Hooghly basin are:

1. Proximity of jute producing areas
2. Inexpensive water transport
3. Supported by good network of railways, roadways and waterways to facilitate movement of raw material to the mills
4. Abundant water for processing raw jute
5. Cheap labour from adjoining areas.

The significant role played by jute in the country’s economy can be assessed from the fact that more than 4 million farm families are involved in jute farming and majority of them belong to small and marginal categories. Cultivation of jute generates employment (seasonal) of more than 10 million man days per season.

Four major shipbuilding centres in India are located at Vishakhapatnam, Kolkata, Kochi, and Mumbai. Hindustan Shipyard Ltd (HSL) and Cochin Shipyard Ltd. (CSL) are the well established public sector yards. It is a large and complicated industry which requires huge capital investment. 

Mazagaon Dock, Cochin Shipyard, Garden Reach Workshop,Hindustan Shipyard. Makes warships for the Indian Navy. It manufactures warships and submarines for the Indian Navy and offshore platforms and associated support vessels for offshore oil drilling.

Ahmedabad is located on the banks of the Sabarmati River, 30 km from the state capital Gandhinagar, which is its twin city. Ahmedabad has emerged as an important economic and industrial hub in India.

In simplified terms, the consumer industry  that produce goods for direct use by consumers, that means the finished goods by this industry can be directly used by consumers, for eg, toothpaste, paper, textiles, etc as opposed to the capital goods industry, which manufactures goods for sale to other companies.

This group of industries belongs to the sunrise industries. A sunrise industry is a colloquial term for a sector or business that is in its infancy, but is growing at a rapid pace. (e.g. the telecom industry in mid-1990s) and is expected to be increasingly important in the future.
Sunrise industries generally have plenty of "buzz" surrounding them as public awareness about the sector increases and investors get attracted to its long term growth prospects.

TISCO is private sector Industry.

The chotanagpur plateau industrial region covers part of Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal states. It is one of the best location for Iron Steel industry as the raw material is found in abundance in this region. Ahmedabad-Vadodara industrial region is the third largest industrial region of the country which lies in close proximity to the cotton growing tracts of the Gujarat plains. Hooghly industrial region lies in West Bengal.

Pearl fishing is associated with Tuticorin (2), Automobiles with Pune (1), Ship building with Marmagao (4), and Engineering goods with Pinjore (3).

The growth rate of the manufacturing sector in India over the last two decades has generally been targeted at or observed around 7 percent per annum.

Rajasthan is well known for its mineral wealth, including significant deposits of zinc, particularly in the Zawar mines.
