Monitoring and metering allow utilities to detect leaks (increasing efficiency) and provide data to consumers to encourage reduced usage (promoting conservation).

Oil and fats can clog the drains reducing its effectiveness in filtering water. In open drains, they block the pores in the soil and thus hamper the filtration by soil. Hence, oil and fats should not be released into the drain.

Wastewater, sewage, and septic water are all terms used to describe contaminated water that has been used for domestic or industrial purposes. Therefore, all these terms are applicable.

Wastewater is generated from various household activities, including flushing toilets, washing clothes in laundries, and using kitchen or bathroom sinks.

Water that has been contaminated by human use, industrial processes, or other pollutants is universally referred to as wastewater.

After treatment, or sometimes untreated, wastewater is typically discharged into natural water bodies like rivers, lakes, or oceans.

There are several source of water pollution like industrial effluents, sewage water, radiobiological pollutants etc. Alum is used to clarify water by coagulating soil or mud particles whereas chlorine makes water free from pathogenic bacteria.

Filtering removes physical impurities, and boiling kills biological pathogens. Both are standard, effective methods for making water safe to drink.

Physical removal of particles by filtration and sedimentation. Then the grit is removed by sedimentation. All solids that settle form the primary sludge and the supernatant forms the effluent. With development and advancement, industries, factories and other establishments have become necessary reality, the pollution can be mitigated by adopting measures as to the treatment of waste at generating source before it is exposed in the environment, reducing the generation of waste material and recycling the waste over and again wherever possible. Preventing the discharge that contaminates the fresh drinking water source.

World Water Day is an annual United Nations observance day held on March 22nd to highlight the importance of freshwater.

Pollution renders existing water unusable, population growth increases demand, and industrial development consumes large quantities of water, all contributing to scarcity.
