Women's Empowerment - Class VII

Sex ratio is used to describe the number of females per 1000 of males. In the Population Census of 2011 it was revealed that the population ratio in India 2011 is 943 females per 1000 of males. The Sex Ratio 2011 shows an upward trend from the census 2001 data. As per the Census 2011, Kerala has 1084 females per thousand males.

The Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya scheme was introduced by the Government of India in August 2004, then integrated in the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan program, to provide educational facilities for girls belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, minority communities and families below the poverty line in Educationally Backward Blocks.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) was established in January 1992.

Sex ratio is the number Women per 1000 Men.  Higher sex ratio would mean a greater number of women per man. Pondicherry now knows as Puducherry has the highest sex ratio among the options given.

The ratio of the number of women working in various jobs to that of women in the country is called women's job participation rate.

The National Population Policy 2000 set a target to reduce the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) to below 100 per 1,00,000 live births by the year 2010.

The government uses both the Indian Penal Code (which criminalizes infanticide) and the Pre-Natal Diagnostic Technique (PNDT) Act (which prohibits sex-selective abortion) to combat female foeticide and infanticide.

Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) is a safe motherhood intervention under the National Rural Health Mission (NHM). It is being implemented with the objective of reducing maternal and infant mortality by promoting institutional delivery among pregnant women. 

The Stand-Up India scheme facilitates bank loans between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 1 Crore to at least one Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe borrower and at least one woman borrower per bank branch for setting up a greenfield enterprise.

In India, the sex ratio (number of females per 1000 males) has historically been below 1000, meaning there are more males than females in the population. Therefore, the ratio is considered favourable to males.

Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana (IGMSY) is a flagship programme of Govt of India under the Ministry of Women and Child Development targeting the pregnant and lactating women of 19 years of age and above for first two live births. IGMSY, introduced in 2010, is a Conditional Cash Transfer Scheme for Pregnant and Lactating (P&L) women to contribute to better enabling environment by providing cash incentives for improved health and nutrition to pregnant and nursing mothers.

Comprehensive nutrition programmes for women include a holistic approach involving health check-ups, immunization, and education to ensure both physical health and awareness.
