India's relations with other countries - class-VIII

Internationalism is a political principle which transcends nationalism and advocates a greater political or economic cooperation among nations and people. Supporters of this principle are referred to as internationalists, and generally believe that the people of the world should unite across national, political, cultural, racial, or class boundaries to advance their common interests, or that the governments of the world should cooperate because their mutual long-term interests are of greater importance than their short-term disputes.

SAARC stands for the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation. It was established when its Charter was formally adopted on 8th December 1985 by the Heads of State or Government of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The headquarters of the SAARC Secretariat are in Kathmandu, Nepal.

The proposal of setting up a regional body was first made by the late President of Bangladesh MR Zia-ur-Rehman between 1977-80. The leaders of the governments of other countries studied the proposals and the first summit of the leaders of the member countries was held in Dhaka in December 1985. 

The first summit was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh on 7–8 December 1985 and was attended by the Government representatives and presidents of Bangladesh, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the kings of Bhutan and Nepal, and the prime minister of India.

The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation was founded in Dhaka on 8th December, 1985. Its secretariat is based in Kathmandu, Nepal. The organization promotes development of economic and regional integration. It launched the South Asian Free Trade Area in 2006. SAARC maintains permanent diplomatic relations with the United Nations as an observer and has developed links with multilateral entities, including the European Union.

The second summit of SAARC was held in November 16–17 Bengaluru, India in 1986. The Heads of State or Government welcomed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of the SAARC Secretariat by the Council of Ministers and their decision to locate the Secretariat in Kathmandu and appoint Ambassador Abul Ahsan of Bangladesh as the first Secretary-General of south Asian association of regional cooperation.

The member states are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. SAARC was founded by seven states in 1985.

The first South Asian Games were hosted by Kathmandu, Nepal in 1984 and have since been held every two years except for some occasions. In 2004, it was decided to rename the games from South Asian Federation Games to South Asian Games.

The national security of a nation can be understood as the safety or security against the sovereignty, territorial Integrity, and terrorist threats etc. National security is defined in the militarized term. Every nation in the world maintains an army and makes weapons to prepare themselves to defend against any such incident and to protect the people and sovereignty of its nation. The border security, physical security is often related to national security. The military actions, number, and maintenance are vital in achieving national security.

The organisation promotes the development of economic and regional integration. Its member states include Afghanistan, Bhutan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Mr. Abul Ahsan was elected as the first secretary general of SAARC.

IMF was founded in 1945. Its headquarters is in Washington D.C. At present, there are 190 members. Its aim is to promote global economic growth and financial stability.

Dalai Lama is the spiritual and temporal leader of the Tibetan people. Around 1950, due to the changing political landscape of China, plans were made to bring Tibet officially under Chinese control. But in March 1959, Tibetans took to the streets demanding an end to Chinese rule. Chinese People’s Republic troops crushed the revolt and thousands were killed. Fearing that the Chinese government would kill him, the Dalai Lama fled from Tibet to India with thousands of followers, where he was welcomed by Indian Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Nehru gave him permission to form The Tibetan Government in exile in Dharamsala in India. Thus, Dalai Lama, and the refugees who followed him created a society in which Tibetan language, culture, arts and religion are promoted.

South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation was founded in Dhaka on 8the December 1985. It was established to promote the welfare of the peoples of South Asia and to improve their quality of life, to accelerate economic growth, social progress, and cultural development and for other similar aims and purposes. It comprises of 8 members.

With the Globalization of trade and economy, business flourished internationally and markets started to interacting globally. The setting up of Companies created employment opportunities in the industrial sector and non-agricultural sector.

Globalisation refers to the interaction and Integration of nation and governments relating to several aspects as trade, markets etc. The unequal benefits of globalisation are referred to asymmetrical  globalisation. Many countries lack in infrastructure and technologies that are preliminary required for achieving free trade. The labours are forced to work at the offered price without the scope of bargaining that was earlier available in the regulated labour market. The corporate restructuring and global market have led to the recommodification of labour.

The 4th ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting Plus held in Clark, the Philippines on 24th October 2017. The meeting discusses it's ways to enhance defence and security cooperation among the member nations to effectively counter various transnational security challenges.

Globalization is a process by which the world is becoming highly interconnected as a result of increased trade, cultural, service and technological exchange. This is marked by liberalisation of global markets and economic activities. The nations are becoming friendlier in terms of mutual profits. The process is also defined as extension of global relation across world space.
