Deserts are characterized by Scanty vegetation.

1) Extreme conditions cause high temperature during the day and low temperature in nights

2) Very fewer rainfall results in a very little amount of water for plants to survive upon

3) Groundwater is present very deep inside the surface

4) This makes roots of average plants disable to suck water from under the surface

5) Only some special plants can grow here which have long roots and the transpiration rate from their leaves is very slow. Eg- Cactus
