The choroid plexus and ependymal cells line the ventricles of the brain and are responsible for producing and secreting cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).

The total volume of cerebrospinal fluid in an adult human is typically around 120-150 ml. 200 ml is often cited in some textbooks as the upper limit or approximate value.

The primary function of CSF is to cushion the brain within the skull and serve as a shock absorber for the central nervous system. CSF also circulates nutrients and chemicals filtered from the blood and removes waste products from the brain.
