Story of dolly, the clone - class-X

The first successful animal clone was Dolly sheep on 5$^{th}$July 1996. It was born as a resultant of three mother one provided the egg, another the DNA, and a third carried the cloned embryo. The used for the production of Dolly is somatic cell nuclear transfer, where the cell nucleus from an adult cell is transferred into an unfertilized oocyte whose nucleus has been removed by the process of irradiation. The hybrid cell is then stimulated to divide by an electric shock, and when it develops into a blastocyst it is implanted in a surrogate mother.

Dolly the sheep was the first mammal to be successfully cloned from an adult somatic cell.

Scientists used a Scottish blackface ewe as the cytoplasmic donor (oocyte was used) in the cloning of Dolly sheep. 

Dolly sheep was born on July 5, 1996, through the technique of somatic cell nuclear transfer. It includes the transfer of cell nucleus from an adult cell into an unfertilized, enucleated oocyte (developing egg cell). Electric shock is given to the hybrid cell to stimulate it to divide and the resulting blastocyst is implanted in a surrogate mother. Polly and Molly's sheep have also cloned animals produced by somatic cell nuclear transfer but they were cloned after Dolly (in 1997).

Dolly is the first sheep which was developed by the technique of cloning by Ian Wilmut in the year 1997. The sheep was developed from the diploid body cell. The somatic cell from the mother sheep was taken and the nucleus was injected into the egg cell which was cultured and transferred into the surrogate mother. This method is known as nuclear transfer. The sheep Dolly was identical in the characters with the mother who donated the diploid nucleus from the body cell.

Telomeres are sections of DNA found at the end of each chromosome. When the chromosomes are replicated during cell division a small portion of the telomeres are lost and thus, they get shorter with the animal's age due to cell division. This led to speculation in the press that Dolly's death was that she could have been born with a genetic age of six years, the same age as the sheep from which she was cloned. One basis for this idea was the finding that Dolly's telomeres were short, which is typically a result of the aging process.
