Rajasthan covers approximately 342,239 square kilometers, making it India's largest state by area. It spans the vast Thar Desert region in northwestern India. Madhya Pradesh is second largest, while Uttar Pradesh has the highest population but smaller area.

The Constitution of India was adopted on November 26, 1949, but came into effect on January 26, 1950, celebrated as Republic Day. 1947 marks independence from British rule, while 1956 relates to reorganization of states.

Uttar Pradesh has the highest population among Indian states with over 200 million people. Maharashtra and Bihar are second and third respectively. The high population is due to its fertile Gangetic plains and historical settlement patterns.

Indian Standard Time is calculated from 82°30' E longitude, which passes through Allahabad (Prayagraj). This meridian was chosen as it's roughly the longitudinal center of India. The time offset is UTC+5:30 from Greenwich Mean Time.

Andhra Pradesh became the first Indian state formed on linguistic basis in 1953, carved out from Madras Presidency for Telugu-speaking people. This came after Potti Sriramulu's fasting unto death. Tamil Nadu remained as Madras State until 1969.

Sikkim has the smallest population among Indian states with approximately 6-7 lakh people. It became the 22nd state in 1975. Goa, while smallest in area, has a larger population than Sikkim and the northeastern states.

Goa is the smallest state in India by area, covering only 3,702 square kilometers. It was liberated from Portuguese rule in 1961 and became a state in 1987. Kerala and the northeastern states are all larger in area.

Pondicherry (Puducherry) and Mahe were French colonies until 1954 when they were merged with India. Portuguese ruled Goa until 1961, while the British controlled most of India. The Dutch had smaller territories in coastal areas.

The States Reorganization Act of 1956 reorganized Indian states primarily on linguistic lines. It created 14 states and 6 union territories, replacing the earlier classification based on historical princely states and provinces. Implemented on November 1, 1956.

India annexed Goa, Daman, and Diu in December 1961 through military operation ending Portuguese colonial rule. Portuguese had refused to relinquish these territories after Indian independence in 1947. They became union territories until Goa gained statehood in 1987.

Itanagar is the capital city of Arunachal Pradesh, one of the eight northeastern states of India. It is located in the foothills of the Himalayas. Manipur's capital is Imphal, Mizoram's is Aizawl, and Meghalaya's is Shillong.

Kuchipudi is a classical Indian dance form that originated in the village of Kuchipudi in Andhra Pradesh. It combines elements of dance, drama, and music. Kerala has Kathakali, Maharashtra has Lavani, and Karnataka has Yakshagana as traditional dance forms.

Kaziranga National Park is located in the state of Assam, in the northeastern region of India. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its one-horned rhinoceros population. The park spans across the Golaghat and Nagaon districts of Assam.

Haryana was carved out of the state of Punjab on November 1, 1966, on the basis of linguistic distribution. The division came after the Punjab Reorganization Act. Punjab remained a primarily Punjabi-speaking state, while Haryana became a Hindi-speaking state.

Gujarat was formed on May 1, 1960, when the Bombay State was divided into two states along linguistic lines - Gujarat for Gujarati-speaking people and Maharashtra for Marathi-speaking people. The division came after the Mahagujarat Movement.

The ancient ruins of Nalanda Mahavihara, a renowned Buddhist university, are located in present-day Bihar, near Patna. It flourished from the 5th to 12th centuries CE. The site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was excavated by the Archaeological Survey of India.

Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary is famous for its population of the one-horned rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis). It hosts two-thirds of the world's great one-horned rhinoceros population. Asiatic lions are found in Gir Forest, birds in Bharatpur, and blackbucks in various sanctuaries.

Mohiniattam is a classical dance form that originated in Kerala, performed primarily by women. It is known for its graceful, swaying movements and circular movements. The name comes from 'Mohini,' the enchantress avatar of Vishnu. Tamil Nadu has Bharatanatyam, Karnataka has Yakshagana, and Andhra Pradesh has Kuchipudi.

As of 2019, India has 28 states in the Indian Union. This number changed after Jammu and Kashmir was reorganized into a Union Territory. The number has historically varied as states have been reorganized on linguistic and administrative grounds.

Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar as India's 28th state in November 2000. The Bihar Reorganization Act created Jharkhand to address the distinct tribal identity and development needs of the Chotanagpur region. Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh were already existing states and did not contribute territory to Jharkhand's formation.

Lavni is a traditional folk dance form from Maharashtra, performed to the rhythm of percussion instruments like dholki. It combines traditional dance and narrative storytelling, often depicting themes of romance and social issues. Gujarat has Garba and Dandiya Raas, Punjab has Bhangra and Giddha, while Uttar Pradesh has Kathak and various folk forms like Charkula.

Silvassa is the capital of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, a union territory located between Gujarat and Maharashtra. Goa has its capital at Panaji, while Daman and Diu is a separate union territory with Daman as its capital. Silvassa remained the administrative center even after the merger of Dadra and Nagar Haveli with Daman and Diu in 2020.

Chennai is the headquarters of the Southern Railway zone of Indian Railways. The Southern Railway zone was created in 1951 and its zonal headquarters is located at Chennai Central (now Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Railway Station). Kochi and Bangalore are under South Western Railway, while Secunderabad is the headquarters of South Central Railway.

 There are nine PIN zones in India, including eight regional zones and one functional zone (for the Indian Army).
