A troglodyte literally means 'cave dweller' - someone who lives in a cave. The word comes from Greek 'trogle' (hole) and 'dyein' (to enter). While historically used for prehistoric cave-dwelling humans, it's also used metaphorically for someone who is reclusive or backward.
