RIA and Web Technologies

RIA stands for Rich Internet Application. This term describes web applications that have the features and functionality of desktop applications, typically running in a browser. RIA technologies provide richer user experience, better interactivity, and more sophisticated interfaces compared to traditional web applications.

Apache Tomcat is primarily a servlet container and web server that implements Servlet and JSP specifications, but it is traditionally classified as a web server rather than a full Java EE Application Server like JBoss or WebLogic.

Flex was originally developed by Macromedia, which Adobe acquired in 2005. Therefore Flex now belongs to Adobe.

XML (eXtensible Markup Language) was specifically created to transport and store data in a structured, platform-independent format.

XML and HTML serve different purposes. XML is designed for data storage and transport, while HTML is designed for displaying data in web browsers. They complement each other rather than replace.
