Lodestone is a naturally magnetized form of the mineral magnetite. It was the first magnetic material discovered and used in compasses. All other options - bar magnets, ball-ended magnets, and horseshoe magnets - are artificially manufactured magnets.

Magnets are materials that produce magnetic fields and attract ferromagnetic materials like iron, nickel, and cobalt. Option A correctly states that magnets attract iron pieces. The defining property of a magnet is its ability to attract certain metals.

A horseshoe magnet is bent into a U-shape, which brings both poles closer together to create a stronger magnetic field in the space between them. Most metals exhibit either ferromagnetism (attraction) or paramagnetism (weak attraction), while only a few like gold and bismuth show diamagnetic repulsion.

Steel almirahs are made of steel, which contains iron and is ferromagnetic, so magnets stick to them. Plastic bags, water bottles (typically plastic), and mirrors (glass with metallic backing but not magnetic) don't attract magnets. This is why you can fix magnetic stickers, notes, or holders on steel surfaces like refrigerators and almirahs.

A bar magnet has a rectangular shape - it's essentially a straight bar with two opposite magnetic poles at its ends. Circular would describe disc magnets, oval is not a standard magnet shape, and U-shape describes horseshoe magnets, not bar magnets. The rectangular bar shape is fundamental to its designation as a 'bar' magnet.

Forks, drivers (screwdrivers), and knives are typically made of steel, which is a magnetic material because it contains iron. Steel is ferromagnetic, meaning it's attracted to magnets and can be magnetized itself. Insulators like plastic or rubber don't conduct electricity, transparent materials allow light through, and non-magnetic materials wouldn't be attracted to magnets - but steel utensils are magnetic.

Every magnet has exactly two poles - a north pole and a south pole. This is fundamental to magnetism; you cannot have a magnet with only one pole (magnetic monopoles don't exist in ordinary matter). Even if you cut a magnet in half, each piece becomes a complete magnet with two poles. The two poles are always paired together.

Magnetic poles always exist in pairs - you cannot have an isolated north or south pole. Every magnet has both a north pole and a south pole, and they always occur together. If you break a magnet, each fragment becomes a complete magnet with its own north-south pole pair. Poles don't exist individually, in groups separately, or fail to exist.

A compass is a navigational instrument that uses a magnetized needle free to rotate to align with Earth's magnetic field, always pointing north-south. This makes it essential for finding directions. Bar magnets don't indicate direction, statues don't have magnetic properties for navigation, and a plain needle without magnetization won't show direction.

The Chinese chariot of 'Hoxing Ti' (likely referring to the South-Pointing Chariot or similar ancient Chinese navigation devices) had a figure that always pointed South. This was a sophisticated mechanical compass-like device used in ancient China for navigation. The figure's consistent south-pointing behavior was its defining characteristic.

In a bar magnet, the magnetic poles are located at the two ends. This is where the magnetic field is strongest and where the north and south poles are situated. The centre of the bar magnet is called the neutral region where magnetic field is weak. Poles are not at the centre, not between end and centre, and not distributed at both locations.

Magnetic needle is used in magnetic compass. 

A wax candle is made of wax, which is a non-magnetic organic material containing no metals that would be attracted to magnets. Refrigerators have magnetic doors/seals, pin stands use magnets to hold pins, and magnetic chess explicitly contains magnets. Wax candles don't interact with magnetic fields at all.

Iron nails are attracted most to the poles because the magnetic field is strongest at these two ends. The centre has the weakest magnetic field strength. This is why magnetic materials cluster around the poles when placed near a bar magnet.

Every magnet has two poles - north and south. These are the only two poles that exist in magnetism. East and west are cardinal directions, not magnetic poles.
