The Ikshvaku dynasty, which ruled the Andhra region in the early centuries CE, had Vijayapuri (also known as Vijayapuri or Nagarjunakonda region) as their capital. This dynasty flourished after the Satavahanas and were patrons of Buddhism. The ancient capital was located in present-day Andhra Pradesh. However, historical sources on this dynasty are limited compared to major empires.

Dakshinapatha (Dhakshnapatham) meaning 'Southern Path' was the historical name for the region between the Vindhya mountains and the Tungabhadra river. This geographical term appears in ancient Indian texts and refers to the southern territories beyond the Vindhya range.
